Are you a chocoholic? Then these avocado chocolate truffles are a perfect treat for you. They are quick to make, creamy, rich and delicious. More importantly, they include the heart-healthy avocado. You have to try these decadent avocado chocolate truffles. Make them for a party, coffee time, birthday, Christmas or for Valentine’s.
Are you ready to make some truffles? Be aware, this can get messy. Wink. You’ll see what I’m talking about when you’ll start forming the avocado chocolate truffles. Despite the mess, they are absolutely delicious. They are all hand made, one by one. Consequently, they are all unique.
As said, you’ll need chocolate. I prefer the dark one. However, you can use any chocolate you like. If you have some chocolate left from Easter or Christmas, this is the perfect occasion to use it.
Moreover, you can melt the chocolate using the microwave or a simple double boiler. In other words, a double boiler or bain-marie is a method where you place a bowl (with your ingredients) over a pot with (about 1-2 cm high) simmering water. In fact, the water shouldn’t touch the bottom of the bowl.
Heart-healthy avocado
Let’s talk about the second ingredient, the avocado. I love avocados. They are delicious, creamy and healthy. In addition, you can use them in salads, with meat and fish and in desserts as well. Do you remember my avocado-choco mousse? It was absolutely delicious! Therefore, here I am with another avocado-chocolate combination.
Moreover, here’s a tip on how to mash avocados quickly. Put one half of the avocado in your hand (without the pit) and do small cuts with a knife. I find best making a net pattern. Then, mash it with a fork directly in the shell. Easy and practical.
As the title says, we are making truffles. Therefore, the mixture needs to be firm in order to be able to form small balls and roll it in cacao powder. Additionally, if the mixture won’t harden enough when in the fridge, you can either place it in the freezer or simply place some ice under the bowl in the fridge. It works like magic.
Ingredients for about 15-20 avocado chocolate truffles:
- 175 g of dark chocolate
- 1,5 avocados
- cacao powder
Start with breaking the chocolate into small pieces and melt it in a bowl using the double boiler method. Also, make sure no water drops in the bowl. This can take a couple of minutes.
While the chocolate is melting, prepare the avocados. Simply cut the two avocados in half and store one half, because you are only going to use three halves. Mash the avocado flesh until you get quite a smooth consistency and put it aside until the chocolate is ready.
Once the chocolate has melted, remove it from the heat and stir it for a minute in order to help to cool down. Then, stir in the avocado mash. When the two ingredients are well combined, place the bowl in the fridge for at least 30 minutes or until firm.
In the meantime, fill a cup or a small bowl with some cacao powder and prepare a plate where you are going to put the truffles. At this point, take the bowl out of the fridge or freezer and, using a teaspoon, scoop some of the avocado-chocolate mixture and place it in your hand.
At this point, you need to be quick. In order not to let the chocolate melt (again), quickly form a ball in between your palms. Then, lay it in the cacao powder and roll it around until completely covered. Repeat the same with the remaining mixture.
These decadent avocado chocolate truffles are amazing. They are quick and easy to make. Additionally, you can also store them in the freezer for later. They won’t get rock-hard at all. On the contrary, they will get deliciously cold yet soft. Serve them with coffee or as a small treat after a long day.
Enjoy!
