I was craving for a burger; for a homemade burger. Can you imagine a perfect sesame bun, a perfectly round patty and a perfect size burger that fits in your hands? Well, forget that and imagine a beef and pork BBQ burger. Something completely different and amazing.
I am going to show you, how easy it can be to make your own burgers. Picture this; a juicy beef and pork patty, fresh tomato, garlic dip, rocket, BBQ sauce between a homemade pumpkin bun. Aren’t you drooling yet? Hahahaha.
You can also use a different bun, buy it at your local bakery or simply follow my recipe for the pumpkin bun. If you decide to make the buns yourself, I would suggest to make them one day ahead.
Ingredients for 4 portions of beef and pork BBQ burger:
- 4 pumpkin buns
- 400 g minced beef and pork
- 1 red onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 egg
- breadcrumbs
- salt and pepper
- olive oil
- 2 handfuls of rocket
- 1 big tomato
- Aioli dip
- cranberry BBQ sauce
Start with making the patties. In a larger bowl combine the minced meat, chopped onion, finely chopped garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper. As a “secret” ingredient, add 3 Tbsp of cranberry BBQ sauce or simply just a regular BBQ sauce. I always use my hands to mix everything well together. In case the mixture gets too wet, add 1-2 Tbsp of breadcrumbs.
Furthermore, divide the meat into four parts and make the patties. Place them on a plate sprinkled with some breadcrumbs. This will prevent the patties to stick.
Wash the tomato and the rocket and let them dry. You can use a paper towel to catch the last drops.
Now prepare a larger frying pan, drizzle in some olive oil and only when it gets hot, place in the patties. Cook them for 5 minutes on each side.
In the meantime, cut the tomato into 1 cm thick round slices. Cut the pumpkin buns in half and place them in the oven at 180ºC for 5 minutes. Like that you will get nice crispy buns.
Take the buns out of the oven and create this amazing beef and pork BBQ burger. Place a generous amount of rocket on the bottom part of the pumpkin bun, add some Aioli dip and place the juicy patty on top. Then add 1-2 tsp of cranberry BBQ sauce or Aioli dip, a slice of tomato and finish with placing the other half of the bun on top.
Finally, serve this beef and pork BBQ burger with some more Aioli dip and BBQ sauce. If you fancy also some fries next to it, try this polenta fries as an alternative to the French fries.
Enjoy!
