The FOOTBALL pizza

Are you a football lover? Then, check out this fun football pizza. Made with store-bought pizza dough, fresh spinach, mini mozzarellas, tomatoes and a couple of olives it creates a lovely football field. Perfect to enjoy on a football evening.

Another football championship just started. Yes, I am talking about football or soccer if you prefer. On this occasion, I decided to create a dish that goes perfectly with football. I am talking about pizza! Yes! More, instead of making just a normal pizza, I wanted something more unique. And so was invented the football pizza.

Football pizza is nothing more than nicely and in a fun way arranged ingredients on pizza dough. I used a store-bought pizza dough this time. Yeah, when in a hurry, the dough from the store can be a great solution as well. Wink.

Furthermore, a bit of creativity is always welcome. Since we are making the football pizza, we have to create a football field and add some players. In order to make the grass green field, I used fresh spinach. Basically, I made a spinach pesto.

More, as for the players, I used mini mozzarella to represent one team and cherry tomatoes to represent the opposite team. There are always three referees at the football match. And so I used black olives to represent them.

Mini mozzarellas and cherry tomatoes representing the two football teams. Black olives are the referees and the spinach peasto represents the grass on the football field.

As you know, the match can’t start without a ball. Right? Easy, take a mini mozzarella, cut a black olive and combine the two. Voila. You have a football ball.

Oh, I love fun food. They bring so much joy to the table. Check out these summer squash boats, the delicious hummus and the pepper octopus, these party mummies, these gorgeous monster jelly doughnuts or the carrot looking croissants. Wink.

Ingredients for the football pizza:

  • 1 pizza dough (storebought)
  • 500 g of spinach (fresh)
  • 11 cherry tomatoes
  • 12 mini mozzarellas
  • 5 black olives
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 3 Tbsp of shaved almonds (or more if needed)
  • olive oil
  • 2 cheese slices (any cheese)

To start, wash the spinach and let it drain. Wash the tomatoes and place the mozzarellas and olives on some paper towels, in order to soak the excess water.

Then, put the spinach, garlic, almonds, a pinch of salt and some olive oil in a food processor. Blitz until smooth or the consistency you like.

Furthermore, take the pizza dough out of the fridge, roll it out on parchment paper. Also, preheat the oven to 180º C. At this point, spread the spinach pesto over the pizza dough, leaving 1 cm from the edge free.

Then, cut the cheese slices into strips. Place them on the spinach pesto “field”, in order to create the goal line, middle field line and corners (maybe the outer line). Next, create the football by cutting the olive into small pieces and making small cuts into the last mini mozzarella. Then, slightly push the olive pieces into the mozzarella.

this fun pizza is a perfect snack on a football evening. Mozzarellas and tomatoes used as players and fresh spinach pesto as the grass. Lovely.

Last but not least, position the “players” of the two teams. One one side mozzarellas and on the other side the tomatoes, goalkeepers included. Add the olive referees, too.

Carefully place in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the dough is baked through.

Finally, take the football pizza out of the oven, transfer it onto a cutting board and cut it into square pieces. It is time for some football! Take a cold beer, as well, and cheer for your team in style.

Enjoy!
