Two glasses filled with cold milk and ice cubes and topped with a lovely coffee mousse. That's Dalgona coffee.

Dalgona coffee delight

Your mornings and days will never be the same after Dalgona coffee delight. This trendy three-ingredient coffee treat is great in summer or winter. Coffee, sugar and water whisked to a mousse consistency and spooned in a cup of milk. Serving Dalgona coffee delight will definitely make you stand out.

Dalgona coffee is the new coffee trend of 2020 invented in South Korea. It’s a phenomenon that’s gone viral on Social Media. Mostly it became a trend through Instagram and TikTok. No wonder it’s also called “the new Instagram craze” or “ the TikTok coffee”.

When I saw a photo of it on Instagram, I read a little about it and then I had to make it. Tasting that creamy coffee froth was simply a must. Wink. I can totally understand why it is so popular. Hmm, how can I put it? It reminds me of iced coffee, but without ice cream and way more creamy.

The signature Dalgona coffee foam

What makes Dalgona coffee so special, is the thick and frothy part, which texture resembles a mousse. Yummy. Essentially, that’s coffee, sugar and water whipped together. It’s a real concentration of caffeine and sugar. Woohoo! And with that, you get another name for it, whipped coffee.

The thick and creamy, almost like mousse consistency, whipped coffee is the basic characteristic of Dalgona coffee.
Creamy like a coffee mousse.

Moreover, this drink can be enjoyed either warm or cold. Therefore, it’s suitable for summer and winter. For the cold variation, you need ice cubes and cold milk and for the warm variation, you need warm milk. Also, you can choose whichever milk you prefer: cow milk, almond, coconut, rice, oats or soy milk. If I forgot any, I am sorry. But you got the point.

Another important tip, that I have to give you, is to stir the whipped coffee before drinking. As a result, you’ll get a whole glass of creaminess and you’ll reduce a bit the coffee concentration.

Are you sensitive to caffeine

In addition, if you are not a coffee drinker or if you are sensitive to caffeine, I would suggest going easy on it. Even though you mix it with milk it is still packed with caffeine. Woohoo! Having said that, you can still adjust the coffee amounts to get the flavour you like.

But, there are other options for people like us. In fact, the whipped Nutella drink, which is aking to Dalgona coffee, is about to become the new trend. Ha ha ha. Besides Nutella, you can use caffeine-free coffee, cocoa or chocolate powder, too. Or you can even make your own combination. I am going to try a new combination next time, with caffein-free coffee and maybe some ice cream. Wink.

Additionally, if you like to check out some other dessert, these are the ones for you: a lovely coffee-coconut panna cotta, a summer blueberry buttermilk cake, the famous Bled cream cake, the classic Pavlova cake, the decadent avocado-choco mousse or the no-bake yoghurt cheesecake.

Ingredients for 2 glasses of Dalgona coffee delight:

  • 4 Tbsp of instant coffee
  • 4 Tbsp of granulated sugar
  • the same amount (4 Tbsp) of hot water
  • milk
  • ice cubes

To begin, in a bowl, combine 4 Tbsp of instant coffee, 4 Tbsp of granulated sugar and the same amount of hot water. Now, with a hand mixer (or a whisk) whip for about 5 minutes. Continue whipping until the mixture turns to a pale caramel colour and the consistency becomes thick and fluffy just like a mousse.

Dalgona coffee is a real sensation.

At this point, put a couple of ice cubes into each glass and pour in the cold milk and fill them up to 3/4. Finally, spoon the creamy and fluffy whipped coffee on top of the milk and serve.

Dalgona coffee delight is a lovely treat to enjoy, either in summer, in a shadow of a big green tree or in winter, in front of a fireplace. You can sprinkle some chocolate or cinnamon on top, too. And, don’t forget a small cookie on the side. Wink. Stir it with a spoon or a straw and sip it slowly.

Enjoy!
