Eggs and spiders

Eggs and spiders

Another quick recipe for how to make a great Halloween snack. The title says it all. The snacks are the eggs and spiders. Of course not the real spiders, so don’t get scared. We will simply use olives. With transforming the egg filling and with some creativity using an olive, you’ll get a fantastic party snack. I think everyone will like them; kids and grown-ups.

Ingredients for 12 eggs and spiders portions:

  • 6 eggs
  • 3 tsp of mustard
  • 1 tsp of mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp of olive oil
  • salt and pepper
  • ca 10 black olives (no stone)

Put the eggs in a pot (single layer) and cover them with cold water (3 cm). Bring the water to boil, after a minute cover the pot, turn off the heat and leave the pot covered for 10 minutes.  Afterwards, take the eggs out and peel them under running water.

With a sharp knife cut them in half (lengthwise), with a teaspoon remove the egg yolks and put the eggs on a plate. Put all the egg yolks in a small bowl, add the mustard (whole-grain is also cool), mayonnaise, olive oil, salt and pepper and mash everything together with a fork until smooth. Keep it in the fridge until you finish cutting the olives.

Now I’ll tell you how to make a spider. Cut the olive in half (lengthwise) and like that you have 2 spider bodies. Take another olive, cut it in the same way and slice carefully the half olive in “half-moon” slices or in “letter C” shape slices. Those are going to be the spider’s legs. You can play a little with it and create some fun things.

Take the egg yolk mixture from the fridge and with a teaspoon fill the empty eggs with it. Then “build” the olive spider on the eggs. It is really easy; body and 4 or 6 or 8 legs. I also did a smiley.

Serve the eggs and spiders at a party, on Halloween or just for a snack.

Enjoy!
