Mini spider pizzas - a great Halloween snack.

Mini spider pizzas

Halloween is around the corner! Are you ready for trick or treat? I would love to put on a costume, but I am not doing any trick or treat any more. However, I am going to wear a purple-black bat in my hair. Woohooo! And my Halloween treats this year will be mini spider pizzas.

These mini spider pizzas are not in the shape of a spider but they have a spider on it. They are cute, delicious and have a perfect finger-food size. I enjoy making snacks for Halloween. You can check out my all-time favourite mummies, oreo spider cupcakes, spider eggs or the finger cookies. Yeah, it seems like spiders are my number one Halloween “monster”. They are cute and fun, on the other hand, the real spiders give me goosebumps.

Regarding the dough, I simply bought one at the local grocery. However, you can also make the pizza dough from scratch (and take all the credits for the mini spider pizzas hehehe).

Getting back to the spiders, they are made out of black olives. Mmmm, yummy spiders! I used the small ones (without the stone) because they are better than the big Calamata ones to make the small spiders. Moreover, I halved some olives crosswise (for the heads) and some lengthwise (for the body and legs).

For the legs, you need to cut the half into thin slices, by cutting crosswise. Then you will get nice U-shape slices ready to make the spiders walk. Buahahaha. It is easy and quick to prepare. Your children or friends can help you and have some fun while preparing them.

Ingredients for about 16 Halloween mini spider pizzas:

  • 2 rolls of pizza dough
  • tomato sauce (about 16 Tbsp)
  • 16 salami slices
  • 100 g mozzarella cheese (grated)
  • dry oregano
  • around 30 black olives (no stone)

First of all, cut the olives. This will probably take you the most time. The rest is quick and simple. To resume in short; cut the olives crosswise for the heads and lengthwise for the body and legs. Once all the spider parts are ready, start forming the mini pizzas.

Find a glass or a cookie cutter with a 7-8 cm diameter. Unroll the pizza dough and cut out the round shapes (using the glass, cup or the cookie cutter).

Preheat the oven to 180º C. Then, cover a baking dish with parchment paper and place the dough rounds on it. Probably all the pieces won’t fit on one baking dish. No problem. Do a second round. It only takes around 15 minutes to bake.

Once you have formed and placed the dough rounds on the baking dish, spread some tomato sauce and sprinkle some oregano on each of them. Furthermore, place one slice of salami on each mini pizza and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. At the end, for the final and most important step, form a spider (head, body, 6 or 8 legs) with the olive pieces that you cut at the beginning.

Place the baking dish in the oven on the middle rack and bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Finally, finaaaally, take the mini spider pizzas out of the oven and nicely arrange them on a bigger plate or directly on a cutting board and put it in the middle of your Halloween table. These mini spider pizzas are going to be a big hit. You won’t be able to say no to them.

Enjoy and happy Halloween!
